When blasting with Zinc Cut Wire a thin layer of zinc is deposited on the parts being blasted. As far as how much corrosion resistance this process offers is difficult to answer. Cycle times, wheel horsepower, diameter of the wheel, exposure to the blast pattern are all variables that will impact the amount of zinc that will adhere to the parts.

Ferrous contamination is when a non ferrous part comes in contact or is blasted with a ferrous object. In blasting this occurs when a non ferrous part is blasted with steel shot or steel grit. Even soft shot will cause ferrous contamination due to its’ high ferrous content. Stainless Steel cut wire and Zinc Cut wire are good alternatives to use when ferrous contamination is of concern.

“As Cut” Stainless Steel Cut Wire is abrasive blast media that starts out as wire and is cut into lengths that are equal to its’ diameter. “As Cut” material starts out in cylindrical shape and as it cycles through a blast machine, or a conditioning machine, the edges become rounded off. Eventually each piece of media becomes spherical in shape. This is where the term “Spherically Conditioned Stainless Cut Wire” is derived.
